Bending Split Rings

Bending Split Rings

22nd Jun 2014

An essential part of building a bird toy is having an end to your bird toy. One way to add an end on a bird toy is using a split ring. Split rings will keep everything from falling off your toy. They can also be used to add a nickel plated bell or chain to the end of your toy. If done correctly, bending a split ring can be very easy. This will ensure that the bell orchain will not fall off of the split ring

When creating bird toys we use two 6" long nose pliers and the following steps:

Step 1: Take both long nose pliers and grip the split ring with a parallel grip. Make sure the split in the ring is at the top center between both pliers.

Step 3: Make sure the that you are bending in an up and down motion keeping both pliers parallel. Do not twist the pliers while bending the spilt ring.

Step 4: Place your bell and/or chain on the ring before closing the ring. Make sure to use the same parallel grip on the ring as in step one. Close the ring with the same up and down motion you used to bend it open. If this was done correctly you will have a closed split ring with no gap between the edges.
